“My Precious Grandmother”
Whenever I see my grandmother sitting in her hospital bed filled with fear,
It is early in the morning, the sunlight is very clear.
I was about three, she was forty-five
I tugged under her body; she comforted me as I cried.
Or when I hugged and kissed her and said, “Grandma, I love you."
And she looked at me and smiled and said, “Sweetie, I love you too."
But this is not my story, my story is 1992. My grandmother’s not forty-five, she’s now sixty-two.
She’s scared as a kitten that’s lost in a storm. She’s wet, crying, and shivering as
I sit by her and mourn. I comfort her as she cries and she tells me, “I love you”.
I looked at her and smiled and said, “Sweetie, I love you too”.
Life is a journey with twists, turns, and tasks.
Time doesn’t stop
and seventeen years have now passed.
My grandmother has graced us all with her life, legacy, and love.
She has placed her mark on this world
and now her spirit soars high above.
and now her spirit soars high above.
She has not left us here to mourn her loss;
can’t you all see?
can’t you all see?
Her mission here on earth was complete
and her spirit is now set free.
and her spirit is now set free.
The next time you feel sad
and start to miss my beautiful grandmother,
just remember that she lives in your heart,
that space that can’t be filled with another.
When my day is near
and my grandchildren sits by my bed.
When my spirit is ready to soar
and release all the tears I have shed.
and release all the tears I have shed.
Don’t cry for me!
It’s the day I look at my welcoming party
and behold the face of my beautiful grandmother we called Mamee!
and behold the face of my beautiful grandmother we called Mamee!
She might have left this earth
but there is still an eternity!
but there is still an eternity!
